Comcast Buys Controlling Interest in NBC Universal
PHILADELPHIA and FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal (NBCU) signed an agreement to form a joint venture that will be 51-percent owned by Comcast and 49-percent owned by GE (NBCU’s parent company). Marketing Spend on E-mail and Social Media Expected to Rise in 2010
NEW YORK – According to the 2010 Marketing Trends Survey released in November, 89 percent of businesses are planning to increase or maintain marketing spend on E-mail or social media next year, reports MediaPost. The survey, conducted by StrongMail, looked at more than 1,000 global business leaders and found that 50 percent expect their customers to spend more in 2010 and only 8 percent expect clients to spend less.  Lockard & Wechsler Direct announces that Stacey Kaufman will be leading the expansion and relocation of its infomercial media group from Burbank, Calif., to the agency’s Irvington, N.Y., headquarters. Kaufman, who will be serving as a consultant, has nearly three decades of paid programming and DRTV experience. Kaufman will be joining Lockard & Wechsler on January 4, and the relocation of the infomercial group is scheduled to be complete by January 29.

 Thane Direct began the international roll-out of the 3 MINUTE LEGS machine, expanding the company’s fitness gear across Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Pacific Rim and the Middle East. To prepare for its 80 country release, Thane produced the infomercial program in English, Swedish, Spanish, German, French, Japanese and Arabic.

 Kingstar Media, a DR media agency out of Canada, appoints Paul Gitlin to the position of senior account executive. Most recently, Gitlin was an executive with the ShopTV division of Torstar Media Group.

 Vertis Communications, a marketing services provider of targeted print advertising and direct marketing, announces that 10-year AOL finance and operations executive, Gerald Sokol, Jr., has been named CFO for the company.

 Tom Maddock joins DATALINE, a compiler of consumer information and modeling services, as vice president of business development.

 A white paper by Our365 and MBS shows that young families will be pulling back on holiday spending this year. The paper, which looks at families with children under the age of eight, published that 65 percent of these families will spend somewhat or significantly less than last year’s holiday season.
