Riley Moves Into Marketer Mode
By Thomas Haire ([email protected])
Legendary infomercial host and TV shopping network pitchwoman Forbes Riley won her first Electronic Retailing Association (ERA) award for Best Female Presenter in September. It's not been for a lack of effort. The effervescent and amiable Riley has worked on more than 75 long-form DRTV productions and has spent more than 17 years in the home shopping realm. Now, she's also becoming a true DRTV marketer with the launch of a new branded fitness product as well as Midvale Direct, a media coaching and DRTV consulting firm. At the same time, she and her husband, Tom, just celebrated the fifth birthday of their twins, Makenna and Ryker. Recently, Response spoke with Riley about her latest plans.
Q Since appearing at Response Expo in June 2007, what are the three most important events that have happened in your career, and why?
A When I was honored by Response Expo as one of the "Legends of DRTV," I thought, "Gee, it can't get any better!" But receiving the "Best Female Presenter" award at the ERA awards was an exciting cap to 2007, especially in light of the fact this was my first nomination in 17 years of hosting infomercials. It feels great to be acknowledged and certainly gratifying to have my peers recognize my work. Another important event is starting my own company, Midvale Direct LLC, with an eye to launching new products that are branded under the Forbes Riley name and expanding our media consulting business. And third, on a personal level, the infant twins that people still see in my Jack LaLanne Juicer show have now turned five. My twins are a constant reminder to me that I have an important responsibility to put forth and stand behind quality products that can really make a difference in people's lives.
Q How is your relationship with HSN? How often do you appear on the network and what are some of your hottest products?
