Now is a very exciting time for ERA Europe. After one full year in existence, ERA's European Board of Directors has made outstanding strides in branding ERA throughout the European direct response markets and around the globe. ERA's upcoming European Conference & Trade EXPO is an excellent occasion for direct response professionals to come together to learn more during three informative and strategic days of education, networking and opportunity.

During the conference, ERA has organized some exceptional speakers and educational sessions for both European direct response professionals and U.S.-based companies doing business in countries like the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and more. Throughout the meeting, attendees can learn the latest on European DRTV and home shopping, the effectiveness of interactive marketing, and secrets on how to initiate business ventures into the ever-expanding Asian direct response community. ERA Europe is reaching new, unprecedented levels of success never before achieved by the organization. Currently, with over 65 member companies, ERA Europe continues to flourish and registration numbers for this year's conference far surpass totals of any previous year.

Current ERA Europe Initiatives

In recent months, ERA Europe has been extremely active in initiating changes regarding how direct response is conducted in Europe. In addition to substantial work conducted by the Retailers Council, the DRTV Broadcasters Council and the Programming & Education Committee, ERA Europe also created a Government Affairs & Regulatory Committee in June 2003, designed to monitor the legislative and regulatory work of the European Commission (EU) in Brussels. One of the primary directives of recent concern is the Television Without Frontiers Directive, which defines the way DRTV is regulated, specifically limiting advertising time allowed during broadcasting hours in Europe. As of this writing, ERA Europe is pleased to announce that the European Board met with the EU and it appears this regulation will be amended favorably with an allowance for increased advertising media time. With recent changes to such regulations as these, it is crucial for direct marketers in Europe to remain as informed as possible as new developments continually arise. During ERA's European Conference, this pivotal topic will be covered in length by industry experts well-versed in the initiative.

In addition to its regulatory negotiations, ERA Europe is also in the final planning stages for an industry-wide Self Regulation Program specific to the European markets. It is expected that this program will begin implementation in 2004 and it will help ERA Europe achieve additional credibility and access to Europe's regulatory network, including the influential European Alliance for Advertising Standards. This program is of importance to the entire direct response community worldwide, and there is no better time to learn about the latest developments than during the European Conference & Trade EXPO.
