Backupify Releases Archive Service for Facebook Fan Pages16 Nov, 2010 By: Jackie Jones
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Backupify, a provider of online backup, archiving and export services for cloud-based data, is now offering archival solutions for Facebook fan pages, allowing users to now back up all data from a unified account.
The move is generally viewed as a positive one for advertisers as the social-networking site continues to promote itself as a vital marketing platform for businesses.
“At Facebook, we’re seeing explosive growth spurred by businesses and government agencies that use Facebook to engage with customers and constituents,” said Adam Conner, associate manager for privacy and global public policy of Facebook. “With the aid of independent solutions like Backupify, organizations can confidently broaden their use of Facebook with the knowledge that their data management, records retention and compliance issues are now addressed.”
The service will be provided free for Facebook fan pages for a limited time. Those who take advantage of the service will be able to avoid data loss and better protect themselves against the risks that come from hacking, corruption, deletion and user error, according to Backupify executives.
Specifically, Backupify will save news feeds, wall posts, photo albums and messages associated with any Facebook fan page or profile, as well as back up any photos, videos and wall posts in which an account is tagged, regardless of if the original poster removes the content later.
“In the last few months, New Marketing Labs has gained over 1,000 ‘likes,’ bringing us up to over 1,400 fans. These connections are vital to our business, so if we were to ever lose them, we’d never be able to get them back,” said Justin Levy, general manager of New Marketing Labs, in a Backupify press release. “Backupify’s Facebook fan page backup is easy and cost-effective to use, and provides us with the peace of mind that we won’t lose any of our vital communications and contacts.”
Ensuring that pages and posts are saved forever could come in handy for marketing purposes, as well as legal ones when it comes to maintaining company records for potential lawsuits or government inquires, according to many industry experts.
“The Backupify for Facebook solution signifies another step forward in our mission to provide users with complete control and access to their cloud-based data,” said Rob May, CEO of Backupify. “As Facebook’s membership and usage rates continue to increase, it is imperative that an independent backup solution emerges that is specifically built to address stringent business and government requirements. As organizations increasingly gather information and interact with over 150 million Facebook users, we are thrilled to provide the most comprehensive solution that protects this data from loss and fosters compliance with a wide-range of records retention and data compliance policies.”
