Time Warner Inc.’s board of directors elects Jeffrey L. Bewkes as the company’s chairman of the board, effective Jan. 1. Bewkes is currently Time Warner’s president and CEO, as well as director, and will continue to serve as CEO in addition to becoming chairman.

Euro RSCG Worldwide is named the largest global advertising agency for the third year in a row, as measured by the total number of global accounts, according to the 2008 Advertising Age Global Marketers Report. The company maintained its ranking with new business from brands including Chivas, NYSE Euronet, The Hershey Co., Schering-Plough, McDonald’s, Kraft, Jaguar, L’Oreal, HP and Danone.

Venable LLP announces that David Levy, a prominent postal regulatory and appellate lawyer, has joined the firm as a partner in its Washington office. Levy arrives from Sidley Austin LLP, where he has practiced postal rate work since 1983. 

Channel M launches ad-supported in-store TV networks for Dollar Financial Group Inc.’s Dollar Financial Corp., an international financial service company serving under-banked consumers.

GSI Commerce Inc. extends its multiyear E-commerce agreement with General Nutrition Corp. (GNC) through 2017. GSI will continue to provide GNC’s online store with E-commerce technology, order management and customer care operations.

Cities2night Inc., a lifestyle marketing company with a focus on entertainment and nightlife, announces a record-breaking year going into the fourth quarter, and highlighted by more than 200 percent growth in member base, expansion into four U.S. markets and one international, and a 100-percent increase in full-time employees. Also, Cities2night was recognized as one of Philadelphia’s fastest growing, privately held companies as part of being nominated for the Philly 100 Award back in October.

LeapFrog Solutions Inc., a full-service marketing communications firm, hires Joe Petraglia as art director in charge of designs for Web, print and multimedia. Petraglia’s background spans front-end Web interface design and back-end Web development in addition to brochure, advertisement and publication design.

HSN Inc. lays off 110 employees, 3 percent of its staff, and eliminates 75 positions, about 3 percent, from subsidiary Cornerstone Brands Inc.’s staff. HSN also eliminated 52 open positions.

Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate LLC wins four awards for its best-in-class marketing and branding campaign, “A Passion for the Home: Launch of Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate.” The Association of Marketing and Communications Professionals, the International Academy of Communications Arts and Sciences (IACAS) and Ektron – a Web content management software company – have acknowledged the campaign.

Top Position, a pay-per-click and search engine optimization agency, announces plans to re-brand in 2009. The firm will undergo a complete reinvention that better reflects its product portfolio of online marketing services and will include a new name, logo and Web site, to be unveiled in 2009.

Online ad network Undertone Networks names John Sabella chief technology officer. Sabella will drive the company’s technology strategy, specifically focusing on systems that provide enhanced efficiency and effectiveness for the company’s clients.
