Hampton Direct Inc., an international importer and distributor of consumer products, has developed its first long-form infomercial co-starring PajamaJeans™ and celebrity dancer Kym Johnson. The 30-minute show features an enthusiastic endorsement from Johnson, along with customer testimonials, product demonstrations and woman-on-the-street interviews shot in Miami and New York.

Rick Wyerman joins I.Predictus, a Web-enabled marketing platform company, as senior vice president of product development.

InfoTech, a software and systems integrations company, signs a full-scale IT outsourcing contract with GMI, a research and ratings company, to provide GMI all aspects of IT service on an ongoing basis, including analysis, programming, system/product development, system/product integration and data center services.

REVShare and Media Properties Holdings announce the following personnel changes: Shannon Nelson becomes senior vice president of ad sales and sales development for REVShare; Sean King is now the senior vice president of network sales, media operations and distribution for REVShare; and Preston Haglin becomes the chief operating officer of Media Properties Holdings as well as president of Lead Generation Technologies, a Media Properties Holdings company.

Amazon is gaining ground on Netflix in the streaming video market. In a survey of more than 1,100 consumers in North America, 82 percent of respondents say they used Netflix to watch paid online video in September, down a tad from 84 percent in February. Amazon, however, rose to 22 percent from 17 percent earlier in the year.

Time Warner reaches a five-year extension with Chairman-CEO Jeff Bewkes that will keep him on the job through at least 2017.

Solaire Resort & Casino Manila, a resort in the Philippines, chooses SK+G Advertising to provide advertising, design consultation and creative development for the brand. The resort will open in March 2013 and will be the first resort to open in the Entertainment City casino and tourist complex in Manila Bay.

A new study by Havas Sports & Entertainment says Olympic sponsors continue to benefit from public awareness of their participation in the games, well after their conclusion on Aug. 12. That positive sentiment helped boost awareness for brands that sponsored the games, per the study. The research shows that between April and September, public awareness on average doubled across 27 sponsors measured.

The research firm Chadwick Martin Bailey finds that 41 percent of social media users are persuaded to "like" a brand because of discounts and special offers. The brands that fare best in the social media sphere are entertainment-related, especially movies and TV series – which account for 48 percent of social media users, according to a May 2012 study by Performics.

The newest comScore forecast says 2012 holiday online sales will outpace 2011 sales by 17 percent. Why? The company cites rising consumer confidence, rampant promotion and a favorable calendar.

Tim Wu, the law professor who coined the term "net neutrality," joins several other industry observers in asking a federal appeals court to uphold the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) neutrality rules. Wu filed his own brief that takes aim at Verizon's argument that the regulations impinge its free-speech rights. He argues that the company's interpretation is at odds with more than 100 years of common carrier rules, which prohibit content transmittors – like telephone companies – from picking and choosing which calls to put through based on content.

In the wake of Newsweek's move to a Web-only publication next year, the Alliance for Audited Media (formerly the Audit Bureau of Circulations) issues new guidelines for publications making that transition. Such magazines must "give subscribers the option of receiving the digital subscription; converting to another print publication; or receiving a refund for the remainder of the subscription," writes Emma Bazilian.
