OTT Services Could Reach $5.8B in Revenue This Year 
CAMPBELL, Calif. – Over-the-top pay TV revenue from services like Netflix and Hulu Plus may double in the next four years, according to Infonetics Research. The firm predicts that revenue will hit $5.8 billion this year and will reach $10 billion in 2018.

Bob Robertson, an early influencer in the global direct response television marketplace, passed away on Nov. 16 in Dunedin, New Zealand. In the 1980s, Robertson established Primeline Limited, a direct response television shopping and in-store demonstration business that operated throughout Britain and Asia. The company was sold to develop TV Media Holdings Ltd. in 1992, which eventually operated in 12 countries including the United Kingdom, United States, Russia, South Africa and across Asia. By 1997, the company not only held major TV ad time but it also had its own TV commercial production houses and owned two 24-hour satellite channels. In 1999, TV Media merged with Pacific Media. Upon the merger, Robertson moved into the property investment and development business in New Zealand, co-founding Infinity Investment Group in Wanaka. “The news of Bob's passing came as a shock. He was always larger than life and a force to be reckoned with,” says BJ Fazeli, a long-time DRTV industry marketer. “Characters like Bob don't come along very often. He was a man of passion, vision and drive. My heart goes out to his family. He will be missed.”

Extreme Reach Inc., a TV and digital video advertising solutions provider, announces the appointment of Michael C. Greiner as chief financial officer.

Media Properties Holdings, whose investors include The Carlyle Group and HIG Ventures, announces three new hires and a promotion to bolster its AdMore and REVShare platforms. Jay Goldstein and Robert Rothfarb join as directors of sales for AdMore, the programmatic TV buying platform. Goldstein is based in New York, while Rothfarb is in Los Angeles. Karen Lisbon joins as vice president of media for REVShare and AdMore, and while Shaia Ash is promoted to vice president, media sales, for REVShare and AdMore.

Delivery Agent Inc. hires Chad Beasley as vice president of sales. Beasley has worked on campaigns for AT&T, Delta, Intel, Sony and General Motors.

Hawthorne Direct, a full-service brand response advertising agency, names Steve Jurgensen director of finance and operations. Jurgensen will be based in Denver.

InterMedia Advertising is the new agency of record for Axial Rx™. InterMedia will handle creative, media planning and buying, and overall account stewardship for the brand along with launching the company’s new Axial Rx™ joint health formula.

Autobytel Inc. announces that Jeffrey Coats, president and CEO, will provide an overview of the company and conduct one-on-one meetings with investors at the LD Micro Conference on Dec. 3 in Los Angeles.

Macy's rolls out an image-recognition search app that lets consumers snap pictures with their smartphones then search and find products. When customers see a look they like, they snap a photo and use it to search for the same or similar products.

Nielsen will begin measuring premium streaming video TV programming from Netflix and Amazon starting next month. Nielsen will analyze audio from digital over-the-top platforms without the cooperation of streaming services, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. Nielsen says the programming that’s measured will come from existing Nielsen clients, and the data will be available to current Nielsen clients.

The Wall Street Journal reports Mediaocean has partnered with Videology, a programmatic video ad platform, to allow marketers to manage TV and digital video campaigns from a single interface.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed STELAR, the compromise satellite reauthorization bill (HR 5728) that reauthorizes (for another five years) the satellite compulsory license allowing the importation of distant network TV signals into markets without those affiliates and affects about 1.5 million satellite subscribers. The bill must pass the Senate and be signed by the president before Dec. 31 or the license expires, as does the FCC's authority to enforce good faith retransmission consent negotiations.

The 2015 round of digital upfront presentations begins April 27, with The New York Times, and ends May 5 with HealthiNation. The six co-founders of the NewFronts – AOL, DigitasLBi, Google/YouTube, Hulu, Microsoft and Yahoo – will be joined largely by the same participants as last year with a few additions.
