Creative and media agency R2C Group says in its Holiday Trends MindReader® survey that 32 percent of U.S. adults prefer to shop locally versus at big-box retailers, with adults age 55-plus being more likely than millennials and Gen-Xers to say they’d prefer to shop locally. Just more than half said they had no preference, and 57 percent said they plan to shop online for most, or all, of their holiday gifts this year.
Research from Wibbitz says nearly half of millennials get their news primarily on their phones and nearly 40 percent of millennials rely on digital outlets for their news, with another 23 percent primarily getting their news from social media. Further, 86 percent watch less than six hours of news per week, and 62 percent read less than 10 articles per week. Out of the age groups surveyed, young people are also the least likely to share a text article (66 percent vs. 73 percent and 77 percent) and the most likely to share a video clip (34 percent vs. 27 percent and 23 percent).
Television viewing as measured by C3 ratings, used to negotiate advertising deals, drops 7 percent in October for both primetime and total day, according to Nielsen. Broadcast prime was down 8 percent among adults 18 to 49. Cable prime was off 6 percent.
Google releases two new ad shopping video formats in AdWords: TrueView for Shopping and Shopping ads on YouTube. TrueView displays interactive videos with shopping cards that display alongside the right rail, containing product and pricing details. Marketers can target the videos at people who have visited their site or watched their other videos. The Shopping ads format on YouTube lets marketers overlay shopping cards on top of product videos.

Yahoo Mail begins restricting e-mail access for ad-blocking users this week to safeguard falling ad revenue from the free e-mail service. Reports suggest that an error message from Yahoo reads: “Uh oh… We are unable to display Yahoo Mail. Please disable Ad Blocker to continue using Yahoo Mail.”
