Total Pay-TV Subscribers Dip 1.3% in 3Q 
NEW YORK – Pay-TV subscribers were down 1.3 percent in the third quarter – a drop of 455,000 subscribers, similar to the 432,000-sub slide in 3Q 2015, reports MoffettNathanson Research.

Portland, Ore.-based DRTV agency Atomic Direct releases TV campaigns for two new Kobalt Tools: the Rapid Adjust Wrench and a revised Double Drive Screwdriver. This marks the sixth year that Atomic has produced spots for the Kobalt brand. 

The National Merchants Association now offers payments processing to merchants throughout Europe via a partnership with Borgun Bank in Reykjavik, Iceland.

Cataloger and online retailer Ballard Designs, a division of HSN Inc., opens a new retail prototype store in Virginia with hopes of engaging customers with a new experience that emphasizes an inviting home interior “where women feel comfortable to explore, engage, and play.” The brand, which specializes in European-inspired home décor and accessories, plans to open stores in 2017 in Massachusetts, New York, and North Carolina. 

Facebook reveals Flash, a photo- and video-sharing app that, like Snapchat, has visual overlays users can put on top of their content, Recode reports. The app was developed for users in emerging markets with poor data and Wi-Fi availability. Facebook reportedly said the Flash app is “less than 25 megabytes.”

Dollar General plans to unveil a smaller-store concept designed around convenience for on-the-go urban shoppers. The new format, reportedly to be called DGX, is due to open in early 2017, with a units in downtown Nashville, Tenn., and Raleigh, N.C. Stores will feature coffee stations and grab-and-go sandwiches. The company is also finishing details to build a $91 million distribution center in Orange County, New York, that will supply merchandise to 1,000 stores in the Northeast. 

Adam Bain, a Twitter exec since 2010 who’s credited with building the company’s advertising business, is leaving the company. His post-Twitter plans were not revealed. Anthony Noto, Twitter’s chief financial officer since July 2014, is replacing Bain as COO. 

MDC Partners Inc., owner of ad agencies such as 72andSunny and Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, settles an investigation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) into former Chief Executive Miles Nadal's improper expenses. The company will pay a $1.5 million fine as part of the settlement. Nadal agreed to fully repay the company $11.3 million and will return $10.6 million in cash bonus awards.

Former Cablevision Systems executives acquire Analytics Media Group (AMG) to form an audience measurement and analytics business called 605 that will offer “privacy-protected, set-top box viewing data” for media and entertainment companies along with products and services for media buying, planning, programming, and audience targeting.

NASCAR wins Twitter’s award for live marketing for its campaign called "Ready. Set. Go," created by Ogilvy, to promote the Daytona 500. It yielded 13,000 mentions in one minute. 

LinkedIn unveils a new ad solution of sponsored InMail, a self-service option that lets digital marketers reach target audiences on LinkedIn with personalized messages that appear on mobile or desktop. 

The Microsoft Bing Ads team plans a rollout of its new native search advertising network in early 2017. The network focuses on commercial verticals such as automotive, financial services, and travel. Ads could have images or text only. 

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg attempts to address allegations that Facebook allowed “fake news” stories to circulate to influence the U.S. presidential election: “The idea that fake news on Facebook influenced the election in any way is a pretty crazy idea. There is a profound lack of empathy in asserting that the only reason someone could have voted the way they did is because they saw fake news ... If you believe that then I don't think you have internalized the message Trump supporters are trying to send in this election.”
