Majority of Marketers' Budgets Spent on Direct Response 
NEW YORK – Marketers continue to pour more money into digital advertising and, more specifically, they're choosing direct response over branding. In fact, direct response is drawing 60 percent of digital ad dollars across nine industries, says a new report from eMarketer.

O'Currance, a business process outsourcing company and call center service provider, appoints Chris Wagner as vice president of business development.

Several companies won Card-Not-Present (CNP) awards during the CNP Expo in Orlando, Fla., last week: Worldpay and Computop for Best CNP Program Outside the U.S.; Paydiant and Jumio for best mobile solution; Adyen and VeriFone for best alternative payment solution; Recurly and Digital River for best subscription/recurring billing program; WorldPay and GlobalCollect for best payment service provider; Adyen and Optimal Payments for best E-commerce platform/gateway; and Ethoca and Verifi for best chargeback management solution.

Mobile devices are improving in-person retail shopping rather than distracting consumers from snapping up a bargain, according to a new Gallup poll. It also reveals that 22 percent of U.S. consumers say that mobiles had increased their retail store trips, trumping those who said it decreased by 3 percentage points.

NBC wins the 2013-2014 prime-time season – its first seasonal win in 10 years. Analysts say the Sochi Olympics helped along with “Sunday Night Football” and “The Voice,” which lifted NBC’s seasonal rating 13 percent to a Nielsen 2.7 live-plus-same-day program rating among 18-49 viewers – up from a 2.4 rating a year ago.

Facebook expands its new video ads to Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and the U.K. The international launch comes two months after Facebook introduced the 15-second video ads that play automatically in users’ news feeds with the sound muted until clicked on.

Time Warner Cable and Comcast score poorly in the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI): a 60 out of 100 for Comcast, down 5 percent from last year, while Time Warner Cable scored 56, its lowest score to date, and down 7 percent, which makes customers for the two companies "the most dissatisfied ... among subscription TV and ISP services," writes Chris Ariens, ACSI director. “It’s a concern whenever two poor-performing service providers combine operations.”

Research from Unruly highlighting the life cycle of a viral video shows that the number of shares the average brand video attracts online in its first three days of launch has nearly doubled in the past year. More people search for content and then click to watch the videos. The average number of shares on the day following the video's launch jumped from 10 percent to 18 percent during the past 12 months, while shares in the first week also rose from 37 percent to 65 percent.

Wal-Mart will hire about 500 employees at its new Sunnyvale, Calif., office to focus on global e-commerce, specifically @WalmartLabs, Wal-Mart’s E-commerce innovation arm.
