The PwC global entertainment and media outlook says total entertainment and media spending on digital services will grow at a 12.2-percent compound annual growth rate between 2013 and 2018 and account for 65 percent of global entertainment and media spending growth, excluding spending on internet access.

A new survey of ad agencies from STRATA finds that 62 percent of agencies say they see business increasing in third-quarter 2014 compared to the same time last year, the highest level ever recorded in the history of the STRATA survey. More than half, 53 percent, project future growth to be better in the first half of 2014 as compared to the last half of 2013, while 29 percent are increasing their ad budgets from last year, representing the highest level recorded by STRATA since 2008.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) reports broadband providers are doing a better job of ensuring the speeds they deliver are about the same as what they advertised. What’s more, average speeds have increased to 21.2 Mbps, compared to 15.6 Mbps one year ago. But the FCC says DSL providers still deliver speeds slower than advertised.

ZAIUS, creators of an engagement platform that lets companies optimize consumer experiences across channels, announces the closure of a $6.3 million Series A investment from David Skok of Matrix Partners and other investors.

At a net neutrality hearing last Friday, the head of the House Judiciary Committee said he believes the Internet “has flourished precisely because it is a deregulated market.” Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) adds, “Vigorous application of the antitrust laws can prevent dominant Internet service providers from discriminating against competitors’ content or engaging in anticompetitive pricing practices.”

UM, the IPG Mediabrands agency, and AOL are jointly developing a real-time marketing platform that will serve messages in reaction to events such as storms, stock market turns, sports scores and other social “moments.”
