NEW YORK – Viacom and DirecTV reached a new carriage agreement late last week that ends a two-week standoff that led to MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Nickelodeon being blacked out in about 20 million DirecTV homes.

Tablets, Smartphones Drive Engagement, Ad Response 
NEW YORK – A new study from the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) says consumers respond more to ads on tablets than smartphones, but that both devices are successful at engaging consumers. Nearly half of tablet owners and a quarter of smartphone users interact with ads on their devices at least once a week.

Social Media, Search Engine Satisfaction Declines 
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Dissatisfaction is rising slightly among consumers with online businesses. According to a report out last week, satisfaction with search engines, social media and new and information sites fell 1.6 percent to 74.2 on what’s called the “American Customer Satisfaction Index 100-point scale,” which is put out by ForeSee, an analytics company.

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) has created the True Simplification of Taxation (TruST) Coalition, which is designed to fight attempts to pass unfair Internet sales tax requirements in Congress. DMA is joined in creating the group by the American Catalog Mailers Association (ACMA), the Electronic Retailing Association (ERA) and NetChoice.
