Barry Becher of Ginsu Knives Fame Dies at 71 
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The pioneer behind the perhaps the best-known knives ever died July 6. Barry Becher, the marketing genius behind Ginsu knives – one of DRTV’s pioneering products – was 71 and had reportedly been suffering from kidney cancer. He passed at a hospital after complications from surgery.

Freight Rates Rise at UPS and FedEx: Non-Contractual LTL Shipping up at Least 5.9% 
If you’re shipping large items like couches and treadmills in non-contractual, less-than-truckload shipments (LTL) via United Parcel Service Inc., plan to pay an average increase of 5.9 percent beginning July 16. That was the word from UPS earlier this month.

Women Embrace Contextually Relevant Ads 
CHICAGO – If you’re looking to get female customers with your online ads, keep reading. A survey about online video ads by Dynamic Logic, an online research company, finds that women say contextual video ads make them feel more favorably toward both the brand (62 percent) and the site where they saw the ad (56 percent), making contextual targeting for video a win-win for publishers and advertisers.
