FTC to Ad Companies: Don't 'Play Games' With Privacy  
WASHINGTON – Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection head Jessica Rich issued a stern warning to advertising companies last week, saying the ad industry shouldn't "play games" with privacy by crafting policies that use language in ways that defy consumer expectations.

DECADES, the new multicast TV network from Weigel Broadcasting Co. and CBS Television Stations, announces that Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist Bill Kurtis will host the network’s new daily one-hour original series, “Through the Decades.” 

Northern Response (International) Ltd. reports its aggressive expansion into U.S. retail continues with its best-selling silicone baking mat Pyramid Pan going into Walmart. The Pyramid Pan is a non-stick baking mat with silicone pyramids that let your food rest above the bottom of the pan for more even cooking with little or no turning.

Turner Broadcasting is consolidating its TV networks' upfront events into one show to highlight its ability to reach audiences through data-driven ad tools. The event will be May 13 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden and will feature TNT and TBS, as well as Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Boomerang, TruTV, CNN, HLN and Turner Sports.

DMW Direct Fundraising, a division of DMW Direct that provides nonprofits with direct response fundraising solutions, announces Bryan Terpstra has joined the team as vice president of fundraising. Terpstra is the former vice president of client services at L.W. Robbins Associates/RobbinsKersten Direct. 

BKV, an Atlanta-based direct and digital advertising agency, adds three vice presidents: Kevin Hawke is now vice president, management supervisor; Mai Huynh becomes vice president, controller; and Bree Roe is vice president, media director. 

SITO Mobile Ltd., a mobile engagement platform provider, announces it has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Hipcricket Inc., a mobile engagement and analytics company, for $4.5 million in cash. 

R2C Group launches a new campaign for, the online community for Christian singles. Entitled “The Power of Two, United in Faith,” the campaign debuted January 19, and is appearing nationally on cable, network, syndication and through various digital executions.

Autobytel Inc., a leading provider of online automotive services connecting consumers with dealers, promotes Kimberly Boren to chief financial officer, succeeding Curtis DeWalt effective April 1. Boren was a member of Autobytel's financial analysis and planning group from July 2007 to June 2009 and rejoined the company in April 2010 as its senior director of financial planning and analytics. 

YouTube expects to begin launching original series – both scripted and unscripted – by the end of the year. 

Nearly 1 billion Facebook users worldwide will access the social network via mobile phones at least monthly this year, eMarketer estimates, representing more than 70 percent of the social network's users.

eMarketer‘s final estimates for holiday retail sales in 2014 show 4-percent growth to reach $616.1 billion. E-commerce sales during the period rose nearly 7 percent to pass $100 billion. Retail e-commerce sales via desktop were highest on Cyber Monday, though Thanksgiving Day saw the biggest year-over-year rise in spending. 

The quality of inventory has been an issue with programmatic advertising, but comScore is launching an “industry trust” initiative to bring its advertising metrics directly to programmatic ad platforms by April. The idea is to give programmatic media buyers the ability to transact upon the same metrics for both programmatic and direct campaigns, including those available in comScore’s media metrix multi-platform and validated campaign essentials.
