Little Giant Ladder Founder Hal Wing Passes Away at 72 
SPRINGVILLE, Utah – The direct response industry is mourning the death of one its greatest pioneers: Hal Wing, the founder of Wing Enterprises and the creator of the Little Giant Ladder system. Wing, who became well known for his philanthropy as well as his business acumen, died August 6 from heart complications at age 72.

Google Class-Action Denial Can Be Appealed  
SAN FRANCISCO – Marketers suing Google might be able to move forward with a class-action lawsuit after all. Earlier this year, U.S. District Court Judge Edward Davila (in the Northern District of California) rejected the marketers’ motion for class-action status. Davila ruled that a class action would be inappropriate because “individualized issues of restitution permeate the class claims.” But last week, MediaPost reported that a federal appellate court has agreed to decide whether the marketers can proceed against the search giant.

TubeMogul, a video ad-buying company, reports that top-tier websites are getting viewers to watch entire videos, but still struggling to generate clicks. The report found that overall, pre-roll video ads available for real-time buying across devices continue to expand – averaging more than 211 million daily impressions, and growing by an average of 4.7 percent per month.

Adobe’s 2012 mobile consumer survey has found that people accessing mobile content are most frustrated by the connection speed of their devices and their ability to find what they are looking for.

Good news for future chief marketing officers: By 2017, they’ll will own more tools and have bigger budgets to manage data than chief information officers, according to research by Gartner. A new survey from the e-zine,, has found that men are favoring their computers over televisions for entertainment. The poll surveyed 55,000 males in the U.S., U.K., Australia and Canada and found that, when not working, half of respondents spent the most time with a computer – more than double the number that spent more time on a television.

There were more than 16 million mobile barcode scans in second-quarter 2012, with more than 5.3 million scans in June, which made it the highest scan month ever, according to a new study by Scanbuy, a barcode solutions company.
