Barry Jacobs, vice president of short-form for Santa Monica, Calif.-based Mercury Media and a long-time leader in the direct response media space, will be inducted into the Temple University Gallery of Success on Oct. 4 in Philadelphia. Jacobs, who graduated from Temple's School of Media & Communication, is that school's honoree for 2013. The 16th annual Gallery of Success Awards honors one alumnus from each of Temple’s schools and colleges. Gallery of Success inductees are individuals who have made significant achievements in the professions for which they prepared at Temple.

Millennial Media agrees to buy Jumptap in a merger of two of the industry's top mobile ad networks. The deal is valued at about $225 million. Millennial CEO Paul Palmieri says while Millennial is known as the leader in mobile brand advertising, Jumptap has more of a focus on the performance advertising side of the business.
Nielsen publishes a report confirming a statistically significant link between Twitter activity and program ratings. The findings suggest a virtuous cycle, with a boost in one directly affecting the other. The report says tweets both drive consumers to tune-in to a program, and increase chat about shows they are already watching.
Global digital usage increased 12.9 percent in 2012 to an average of 5.3 hours per week, led by a surge in time spent with mobile media. Mobile usage in 2012 increased 21.9 percent over the prior year to 1.1 hours per week, while Internet usage rose 10.9 percent to 2.5 hours.
