Viacom reports lower earnings for its third quarter as ad revenues at its domestic cable networks continue to fall because of lower ratings.

Discovery Communications strikes a deal to provide long- and short-form programming to Verizon for its upcoming mobile video service. Discovery CEO David Zaslav says the deal will help Discovery move beyond its traditional subscriber base and “adds another source to our distribution revenue stream.”

Dollar General announces James W. “Jim” Thorpe has rejoined the company as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer, effective immediately. Thorpe previously served as Dollar General’s senior vice president and general merchandise manager from May 2006 until he retired in July 2012.

Children in the U.K. are watching less broadcast television as they turn to online activities and services such as YouTube, according to Ofcom’s latest Communications Market Report. The number of minutes of TV watched on a TV set – including through catchup services – by children between the ages of four and 15 fell by 17 minutes, or 12.4 percent, between 2013 and 2014 – to just less than two hours per day.
