PodcastOne Executive Chairman Norman Pattiz and Edison Research Vice President of Strategy Tom Webster reveal findings of national consumer brands using advertising in podcasts, including: More than 60 percent of listeners mentioned a specific grocery brand post-campaign, up from 7 percent among listeners in the pre-study; Unaided product awareness increased from the pre-study to the post-study by 47 percent for a financial services product, by 37 percent for an automobile aftermarket product and by 24 percent for a lawn and garden product; and in the post-study, more than one-third of respondents had a “very favorable” opinion of an automobile aftermarket product, up from 18 percent in pre-study.

The National Retail Federation’s (NRF) economic forecast for 2017 projects that retail industry sales, which exclude automobiles, gasoline stations, and restaurants, will grow between 3.7 percent and 4.2 percent vs. 2016, roughly in line with last year’s 3.8 percent increase. Online and other non-store/online sales, which are included in the overall number, are expected to increase between 8 percent and 12 percent.

Digital identity firm Drawbridge adds programmatic TV capabilities to its cross-device platform to offer the company’s managed-service and self-service platform clients so brands can bid on and buy linear TV inventory directly through the Drawbridge demand-side platform and reach the same first- or third-party audience segments on both TV and digital.

3Cinteractive(3C), a mobile marketing services firm, acquires the SMS messaging business portfolio of SITO Mobile Ltd., a mobile engagement platform. The move allows SITO’s SMS messaging clients to tap 3C’s switchblade mobile marketing platform and its product-solutions, including SMS/MMS, mobile wallet, and push.

Verizon reports it is now offering unlimited data plans. It eliminated unlimited data plans from its offerings in 2011. Bloomberg reports that Verizon’s shares have dropped about 2.3 percent during the past 12 months, compared with a 78-percent surge for T-Mobile and a more than threefold gain for Sprint Corp., which has also been aggressively pushing unlimited plans.

Dollar General says it will open 1,000 stores and two distribution centers in 2017, resulting in approximately 10,000 new jobs. The announcement comes as Dollar General is testing a new, smaller-store format under a new banner.
